Bot new computer. Brother drivers didn't work.

Installed new. Still didn't work. Called you Tech support. He took control of my computer.

Said had to check other items also in addition to drivers. Pointed out numerous problems with various aspects of my computer. Asked if he could fix in order to get Brother driver working. I said 'yes but I don't want any charges.' He said 'No problem.

He (Alex) pointed out all the problems I had as he went through various checks. Told me I had many aps that weren't working or connected and that he could fix all of them. Again I said 'no charges.' Then he went into a sales pitch about how he had fixed all the problems and could do the same for any that showed up in the future if I would agree to buy service contract. I said NO and and terminated the call.

Called MSFT about the problem. They took control of computer and informed me that I had an extra security program installed. The date matched the Brother call, so your tech person had to have installed it without my knowledge or consent. I asked about the aps not working an MSFT said "Of course, they weren't being used, so they were off."

By coincidence, I was checking my American Express card online this AM and saw a charge for $199.99 from SALT IT.

This couldn't have been a charge I approved, so I called AMEX and started an investigation. They told me the charge went through PAYPAL. I called SALT IT at 866-784-**** and told them about the charge I never approved. They offered to return half, then 75% of the $200 charge.

I said "$175.00 and I'll agree. You have administrative costs, so I'll give you that much." They said 'Impossible.' I then asked to talk to corporate and they said they were Brother Employees and I could talk to their customer relations. I talked with the customer relations person who offered me $100 off the charge. I asked again for corporate and they just kept talking.

I hung up, called AMEX, started a resolution of the charge, then called PAYPAL and did the same. PAYPAL said my charge would be returned to in full. That is good.

I am making this complaint because I love your products and have been buying Brother products since you were only producing typewriters back in the 1980s. This experience is totally foreign to what I expect (actually you also) from Brother.

You have SALT IT out there telling us they are Brother employees and tricking customers into thinking something is seriously wrong with their computers (when there is not) and trying to get a service contract out of us as a result. They are making charges without consent and installing programs on computers with customer knowledge or consent.

Sooner or later this is going to come back on you and I want you to be aware. I harbor no ill feeling toward Brother but I do for SALT IT because of their very devious practices which could result in you being liable.

Please kick this up to someone who can correct it sooner than later.

Thanks. Dave Winter, 619-37*-886
