I purchased a MFC-9130CW Brother printer less than 7 months ago. Within 4 months it was leaking yellow toner all over the place.

I tried to clean it. Still it would not print correctly. Earlier today I got tired of cleaning it so I called Staples. They let me know that it has a complete one year manufacturer warranty.

They gave me Brother's number. I spent over an hour with Eric Stanford from their customer service. At one point he had me on hold for over 15 minutes โ€“ I donโ€™t like classical music that much. After doing everything he asked he suggested that the printer was fine, I simply need a new yellow cartridge.

I asked if that was covered. He said 'No, it is normal for toner cartridges to blow up and leak ink.' (by the way, this was the original cartridge that came with the unit.) I then asked how I was going to clean in yellow from inside the machine. He let me know that I would have to drive over two hours to a service center and leave it with them to service then drive over two hours to pick it up when they are done. I am running a business.

First, I don't have four hours to drive. Second, I need a printer in my office. This is a 250 dollar item โ€“ it is disposable. Can I afford to buy another one โ€“ of course I can.

But this printer is only 6 months old and under warranty. I suggested to Eric that Brother simply replace the unit with one that functions properly. His response โ€“ โ€œSorry, this is not a functional issue. This is normalโ€.

I tell you what. I have been a loyal Brother user for over a decade. If this is the new 'normal' for Brother, I will never buy another Brother printer. Exceptionally disappointing.

Not just the fact that the product is defective but that the manufacture will not cover an obviously faulty item. Donโ€™t know what I am going to replace it with but it will not be another Brother.

Reason of review: Poor customer service.

Monetary Loss: $275.

Preferred solution: Replace the 6 month old printer with one that is not defective..

Brother Pros: Warrantly.

Brother Cons: Fact that they will not stand behind their products.
